Cataract Diagnosis & Co-Management, Northport, AL
Cataracts develop in many people as they age. At Tuscaloosa EyeCare in Northport, Pickens County EyeCare in Reform, and Hale County EyeCare in Greensboro, our skilled eye doctors diagnose cataracts and can help you restore your vision. If surgery is needed, we will refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist and provide follow-up care.
What are cataracts?
A cataract happens when the lens in your eye gets cloudy, affecting your vision. Common symptoms include blurry or cloudy vision, sensitivity to light, double vision in one or both eyes, difficulty seeing at night, and frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription. Cataracts usually start as a small cloudy spot in the lens and grow larger over time, gradually impacting more of your vision. In most cases, they develop in both eyes, but not at the same rate.
Diagnosing cataracts
Our eye doctors in Northport, Reform, and Greensboro can diagnose cataracts and a range of other eye diseases during an eye exam. We’ll conduct tests to assess your overall eye health and vision and see if cataracts are causing your symptoms.
Treatment for cataracts
Treatment for cataracts will depend on how much they’re affecting your vision and daily life. If they’re not impacting your vision or daily tasks, you may not need treatment right away. Adjusting your eyeglass prescription can sometimes provide temporary relief. But if your cataracts start to interfere with your everyday activities and quality of life, our eye doctor might suggest surgery.
Co-management for cataract surgery
If surgery is necessary, we’ll refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist in your area. As part of our co-management service, we work closely with your surgeon before and after the procedure. We’ll help you understand what to expect, answer any questions you may have, and schedule follow-up visits to monitor your recovery and ensure the best possible outcome.
